American Home Furnishings Alliance - Communications/Social Media Intern

Company Description

The American Home Furnishings Alliance is a trade association with approximately 400 corporate members nationwide. Participating companies include the nation's leading manufacturers and importers of indoor and outdoor residential furniture. These member companies are part of a sophisticated global supply chain that represents a $58 billion segment of the U.S. economy. In addition, about 150 members are suppliers of components, machinery and services used by the residential furniture industry. AHFA is the voice of the industry in Washington, D.C. on all regulatory and legislative matters impacting the manufacture, marketing and sale of home furnishings

Intern Responsibilities

Key responsibilities will revolve around AHFA's new website created to help address a growing labor shortage in upholstery manufacturing facilities (especially in North Carolina, Virginia and Mississippi). The site is also designed to rebuild the reputation of the U.S. residential furniture industry as a modern, thriving and growing industry with quality jobs. Specific responsibilities will include:

1) Monthly communication with participating companies to determine current job openings; update data on website to reflect survey results

2) Weekly Facebook posts designed to drive traffic to the jobs website

3) Contact with HR managers to identify new workers who could be profiled on the site. NOTE: One or two visits to specific plants in or around Hickory, N.C., may be arranged to complete these profiles. Interviewing and writing skills essential! (Photography a plus.)

Additional responsibilities could include participating in research related to a significant product safety issue and the marketing and communication of the industry's campaign to address the issue; assisting with the marketing and promotion of a fund-raising golf tournament that supports AHFA's scholarship fund; and assisting with public relations activities surrounding the July-August Las Vegas Furniture Market
