Intern Responsibilities
Role Focus:
The Continuous Improvement Intern role will focus on identifying and improving the outcomes of manufacturing and operational processes to improve efficiencies, reduce waste and reduce cost.
The Continuous Improvement team provides support and lead continuous improvement projects in support of manufacturing operations strategy addressing Safety, Quality, Delivery and Cost Efficiency. A key aspect of the function is to support manufacturing achieve performance expectations with problem solving initiatives.
This opportunity will provide the right platform for the intern to gain exposure to manufacturing processes by working with the Continuous Improvement team on data-driven projects to drive performance.
Project Scope & Responsibilities:
-Identify problems and apply appropriate methodology and data to determine root causes.
-Perform equipment evaluation such as downtime/operating efficiency and waste studies.
-Utilize excel and basic analytical skills to develop data collection spreadsheet with process improvement initiatives.
-Perform time studies and work sampling studies involving the monitoring of various processes.
-Monitor and develop metrics and process performance against acceptable standards and key performance indicators.
-Perform justification studies utilizing Lean Waste methodology to successfully eliminate non-value added activities such as defects, overproduction, waiting, inventory, motion, transport and over processing.
-Provide recommendations to the management team on continuous improvement efforts to achieve objectives.
Expected Learnings:
-Develop project management skills, providing clear plans and milestones to drive the project to completion.
-At the end of the 10 week period the intern is expected to have honed skills on MS Excel, PowerPoint and presentation to diverse audiences.
-By 10 weeks, the intern will demonstrate ability to work independently, use initiative, follow through, and complete the project while working with various stakeholders within the Manufacturing teams.
-Develop communication skills enabling effective collaboration and relationship building across various levels of employees.
-Gain basic understanding of the activities within classic consumer goods company.
